Biography

Dylan Bassett is a composer, percussionist, and teacher. Dylan holds at BA in Music and an MA in Global and International Studies. 

Over the past 30 years Dylan has performed throughout the U.S, Guinea, Ghana, & Senegal with a score of talented musicians including: Jon Fishman, Louie Bellson, Karrin Allyson, Chris Hazelton, Fassile Doumbia, Sekou "Balandougou" Keita, Souleymane Faye, and many others.

His 20 years of experience teaching include work with the Missouri Fine Arts Academy, Drury University, Webster University, Missouri State University, the Missouri Arts Council, Americana Music Academy, the University of Kansas, and out of his percussion studio. Dylan teaches private lessons in drum set, snare drum, keyboards, congas, djembe, orchestral and marching percussion, as well as traditional African, Cuban, and Brazilian drumming styles.

Dylan has studied West African percussion in Ghana, Senegal, and the U.S. with: Mamady Keita (Guinea), Foude Bangoura (Guinea), Mohamed DeCosta (Sierra Leone), Mohamed Camara (Guinea), Mustapha Tettey Addy (Ghana), Moses Otoo (Ghana), Massala Mbaye (Senegal), Petit Diop (Senegal), Assame Diouck (Senegal), Greg Ince (U.S.) and Ray Castrey (U.S.). Dylan specializes in: djembe, dunun, odonno, tama, sabar, kpanlogo, kalangu, and drumset.

He has performed in numerous jazz, rock, African, blues, and fusion bands throughout the U.S., Senegal, Guinea, the Gambia, & Ghana. Dylan is currently a faculty member at the University of Kansas School of Music, and regularly performs with SUNU (8 member funk band), Bemsha (jazz quartet), and with the Dylan Bassett Percussion Trio.
